Black communities are clearly visible at Birchtown, Black Settlement (Town of Shelburne), Preston, Hammonds Plains Black Settlement (Upper Hammonds Plains) and Boydville (Maroon Hill, southeast of Upper Sackville).
Noted author and humourist Thomas Chandler Haliburton was the author of An Historical and Statistical Account of Nova Scotia (Halifax, Joseph Howe, 1829). This map appeared as one of the illustrations.
